books in 2013

As 2012 (the Year of No Books) drew to a close, I worried that 2013 might be a pendulum-swing binge of fiction and biography and classic and mystic.

Quite the opposite. Twelve months is, apparently, adequate time to undermine an addiction, and set books in their proper place. I miss voracious reading more in theory than in actuality, because so many fond childhood memories involve endless piles of books. However, a happy medium is a fortuitous sphere.

Highlights from 2013:

Favorite Novel:

Favorite (albeit only) Classic:
Quo Vadis, by Henryk Sienkiewicz

Favorite Autobiography:
The Pastor's Wife, by Sabina Wurmbrand

Favorite Sibling Read-Alouds:
Little Town on the Prairie, by Laura Ingalls Wilder
The Drowned Vault, by ND Wilson

Favorite Mystics:
The Self-Life and the Christ-Life, by AB Simpson
By My Spirit, by Jonathon Goforth
Absolute Surrender, by Andrew Murray

Looking forward to 2014:
The Everlasting Man, by GK Chesterton
also some Father Brown rereads
Descent into Hell, by Charles Williams
something Dickens, either Dorrit or Dombey
Abide in Christ, by Andrew Murray
The Way to Pentecost, by Samuel Chadwick
How to Live the Victorious Life, by an Unknown Christian

Hey L,

I came across your blog (by accident!)while searching for that poem by Dorothy Sayers...someone else had re-posted it on their blog. Anyway, I'm looking forward to perusing through this book list. Thanks for posting. :)

Best,
A.R.
